The Ladies Mite Society Meeting in June 2016 shows the members enjoying fellowship as they conduct the business at hand.
The Ladies Mite Society was established at Durham Parish on June 6, 1876.
The women of Durham Parish have historically played major roles in helping sustain our church and the people of our parish. Records tell of their "nobly and willingly" coming to the aid of our church in 1843, raising money to complete much needed restoration of the church. It was in 1876 that the Mite Society formally organized and held their first meeting on June 6. Current active membership totals 15 women who meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 1:30 pm in the parish hall.
Favorite projects done by the Mite include the needlepoint tapestry covers on our church's kneelers, decorating the church for Christmas and Easter, ribbon bookmarks for hymnals, molded soaps, and the Angel Tree, which is a collaborative effort with Mt. Hope/Nanjemoy Elementary School that helps provide Christmas gifts for children in need.
Hand-painted cast models of our historic "Old Durham Church" are available for $50. Proceeds from sales help the Mite fulfill their annual pledge to the general fund of the church.
Please contact Mite President Linda Buffalo, if you are interested in knowing more about the Ladies Mite Society at email@example.com.
