School Backpack Program
The BackPack Program is part of "Feeding America" a non-profit organization focusing on hunger in America.
The Daughters of the King, Queen Anne Chapter generously donate food items each month to children in need at Mt. Hope/Nanjemoy School. Mt. Hope/Nanjemoy is a school within Old Durham’s community. At this time there are 12 families, with a total of 27 children that are in need. The food items consist of snacks, cereal cups, non-dairy milk, juices, etc., and are delivered to the school at the first of each month by the Daughters.
At the beginning of the school year, the DOK members also donate school supplies to help the children whose family cannot afford them. Lots of composition books, binders, paper, pencils, etc. come to their meeting in August. The supplies are taken to Mt. Hope/Nanjemoy Elementary School so they will be available on the first day of school!
These items are given to the children each Friday before they go home, in a backpack, which the children return to the school on Monday.
